Instructions To Authors
JMP is a suitable channel for the publication of papers in plant sciences, agronomy, horticultural, plant breeding, soil-plant sciences and pest or disease-plant sciences. Manuscripts pertaining to experimentation or research in field crops will be accepted for review as papers.
All manuscripts should meet the following general criteria before it can be accepted for publishing:
I.It should meaningfully contribute to science
II.It must have a sound methodology and must be well explained with sufficient detail so that other scientists can replicate such experiments.
III.The Conclusions should be supported by the data used
IV.Manuscripts should be concise, well written, and understandable.
All manuscripts should be uploaded to JMP journal system and arranged in JMP standard format in the order: Title, Authors, Address and Email, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Result and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment and References. The typing/printing should be done on one side of white papers of A4 size in MS word format with single column, 1.5 line spacing, 12-point font and Margins on all four sides should be 2 cm.
The title of the paper should be concise and informative, avoiding abbreviations and formula where possible. It should be written clearly and concisely describing the content of the research.
All manuscripts should have a main author and probably co-authors with their full names written with no abbreviation including contact address(es) and email address(es).
STATEMENT OF ORIGINALITY/ CONTRIBUTION
A statement (maximum of 150 words) describing the contribution of the current paper should follow after the author`s details and this is going to appear on the published paper. The goal of this statement is to provide a clear and concise focal point for the manuscript. You do not necessarily need to explain the methodological or operational details of your research. It should mainly focus on the contribution of the research and a declaration showing that the paper has never been published before or currently submitted anywhere for this purpose.
The abstract should come after the title page on the manuscript. It must be integrated and independent such that it falls in line with the introduction and purpose, methods, results, conclusion and suggestion. However, the abstract should be written in a single paragraph without headers and references. Also, non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided but if necessary, they must be defined at the first instance they are mentioned in the abstract itself. The abstract must be written using 150 to 200 words with no reference and accompanied keywords.
Keywords should not be given in general and plural terms and should not connote multiple concepts. Do not use words or terms in the title as keywords. The keywords are generally used for indexing purposes and as such, they should not be more than 5 words or phrases in alphabetical order.
State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results. Explain how you addressed the problem and clearly state the aims of your study. As you compose the introduction, bear in mind the readers who may not be experts in this field. The word limit for the introduction is 750 to 1000 words
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Here, the time and place of the research should be mentioned first. All materials and methods that were used such as chemical for analysis, treatment and experimental design must be stated clearly and briefly. State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results. A Theory section should come after without repeating the background already dealt with in the introduction and this should lay the foundation for further work. At the tail end, there is a Calculation section which represents a practical development from a theoretical basis. The word limit for Materials and methods is 400 to 600 words.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Results and discussion must be written in the same paragraph. In other words, they should be presented continuously, starting from the main result to the supporting results and equipped with discussion. Units of measurements used should follow the prevailing international system. All figures and tables should be in their respective places in a format editable by the editor.
The conclusion should be explained clearly with suggestions/recommendations placed after it which can be of use to readers/consumers. Conclusion and suggestion should be written using 40 to 80 words.
State the source of grant if any and the person to whom the grant was given. Also, name the person(s) who assisted you in accomplishing the research work.
The author-year notation system is required and recommended. All citations mentioned should be written down in the references using American Psychological Association (APA) style and arranged from A to Z. Articles having 10 recent references or more are recommended and 80% of them should be journals. Also, most of the references should be primary (i.e. done in the last five years). Unpublished data and personal communication should not be cited. In-Press articles that have been accepted for publication may be cited in the references. In this regard, you can include in the citation the journal in which the in-press article will appear and the publication date, if a date is available.
Reference to a Journal Publication:
The appendix should contain information that is supplementary and not strictly necessary to the main body of the writing. It may include a reference section for the reader, a summary of the raw data or extra details on the method used for the work. It should be accessible, useful, and engaging to your reader. It should be placed at the end of the manuscript.
